Approach to Education
We consider the school as a production unit. Administrators, teachers, and students are all workers in this unit. The product is not computers or cars, but knowledge and ideas that are nurtured in the students' minds. Since the students are the ones who receive the product, they should be the most concerned that the product is good. This is why in SABIS® schools staff and students work together as a team. Everyone has a job to do and everyone is accountable. Administrators, students and staff "self-audit" in order to discover and correct errors. It is teamwork that allows us to reach heights that are difficult to reach otherwise.
Catering for the Complete Individual
Like all SABIS® schools around the world, The International Schools of Choueifat - Koura is highly academic, non-selective, co-educational, English-medium, independent day school catering for students from the ages of 3 to 18 years. The school provides top-quality education to children of different races, nationalities and backgrounds. We believe we can add more value to students to enable them to perform to the best of their ability, be admitted to the most competitive universities and be successful in their careers. The school develops students’ academic competence, learning techniques, interpersonal skills, and personality in addition to instilling in them high ethical, moral, and civic values. The multicultural setting of the schools help students develop a better understanding of world cultures.
The Syllabus
The syllabus is specifically designed by SABIS® to provide students with the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in universities around the world. It is neither British nor American, yet every year our graduates join top universities such as Tufts, Harvard, Arizona State Universities, American University of Beirut, Lebanese American University, University of Balamand, etc...
Class Teaching
From KG to the highest level all courses are clearly structured so students and teacher alike know precisely what should be learnt. Teachers teach one point at a time (the SABIS® Point System™) so that each lesson alternates frequently between oral work, individual work and group work in such a way that it is difficult for students to 'switch off'. The administration tests the children regularly. Everyone in the school is accountable. Accordingly students learn more in class, which means they have more time for relaxation and fun after school.
Students' Follow-Up
The progress of every student is continuously followed up, and students are given the support they need. All available means are used to help those who fall behind to catch up. They are advised in study techniques, motivated by the academic staff, and encouraged by receiving help from peer-tutors or teachers. In the SABIS® School Network, no one is left to his or her own devices.
The Learning Process
All courses are structured. A unique system of academic tracking (the SABIS® AMS™ which is a computerized method of detecting gaps in knowledge) allows the administration to follow closely the progress of each individual student. Gaps are pinpointed as soon as they form, and the students’ efforts are focused on eliminating these gaps. Valuable time is saved, and a gap-free cohesive structure of knowledge is built in students’ minds.
Role of the Student Life Organization™
The student organization works hand in hand with the staff as one team. Members of the Student Life Organization are appointed by the administration for their competence rather than elected by the students for their popularity.
This Student Life Organization seeks to:
(1) raise academic standards
(2) promote high social and moral values
(3) develop personality,
(4) develop communication and management skills and
(5) involve students into organizing academic and non-academic
activities.
